What’s Going on Inside Your Data Center?

May 26, 2021

New data centers are being built across the globe as a strategic support system now that more and more services are moving to the Cloud. The reliability and security of these systems are the lifeblood of many organizations.

According to a recent Gartner Research Report,

“By 2025, 85% of infrastructure strategies will integrate on-premises, colocation, cloud and edge delivery options, compared with 20% in 2020.”

As your enterprise infrastructure scales, you need to consider expanding your data center technology beyond firewalls, routers, switches, storage, and processors.

While we often think about data centers as a “lights out” remotely managed facility, that is rarely the case. Security and operations staffing is the starting point. Frequently, they are located in the Network Operations Center (NOC) to monitor the firewalls, HVAC operation, facility security, cyberattacks, and more. Mission-critical metrics light up the NOC videowall with graphics and trendlines to quickly highlight where attention or intervention is needed to maintain full operational status. Data aggregation tools can automate, analyze and generate images that can be quickly synthesized and turned into actions based upon the threats or faults detected. NOCs can be set up to monitor remote data centers for redundancy and backup, in case of a local failure, or cyber activity threatening multiple facilities.

Key Characteristics for NOC Design

  • Secure: Information assurance and data security are paramount
  • Scalable: To support your data center footprint locally and globally
  • Real Time: Live and accurate information is critical to assessing risks
  • Enhanced Visualization: Graphical presentation that can be assessed swiftly
  • Seamless Integration: To create a unified common operating picture within the NOC

There are many collaboration tools deployed in data centers that complement those in your office or other facilities to support day-to-day workflow and business operations. These range from digital signage and paging to your customer briefing center and huddle rooms.
