National Geographic Museum of Exploration

Building the foundation behind an unforgettable visitor experience

When the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration campus set out to create an immersive, secure, and connected environment for visitors, they faced a common challenge: ensuring every technology system across the museum could operate seamlessly, securely, and reliably from day one.

Vision Technologies joined the project in May 2024 and remained a key partner through the museum’s opening in June 2026. With technicians on site daily, Vision was tasked with building the technology backbone that would power the entire campus.

The scope included turnkey security solutions featuring weapons detection scanners, card-reader turnstiles, video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, and access control for approximately 170 doors. Vision also deployed more than 200 Axis cameras integrated through Milestone servers, providing comprehensive security coverage throughout the campus.

Beyond security, Vision installed the museum’s enterprise cabling infrastructure, including 150 wireless access points, dual fiber backbones connecting all telecommunications closets, and thousands of runs of shielded Belden Cat6A cable. In total, the project incorporated 27 different cable types, all carefully installed behind the scenes.

From the moment visitors enter the museum to every exhibit they engage with, technology plays a critical role in the experience. Vision Technologies delivered the secure, connected infrastructure that powers every system across the campus, enabling seamless access to immersive experiences, interactive storytelling, and groundbreaking discoveries. By creating the foundation behind these experiences, Vision helped bring the Museum of Exploration’s mission to life, sparking curiosity and inspiring visitors to see the world through the lens of exploration.
